Wines – enormous diversity from one grape
“In vino veritas est” – was already known to the ancient Romans, and Roman mythology even devoted a god, Bacchus, to wine. Today, there are a number of contemporaries who spend veritable fortunes on a decent wine cellar. However, even though many like to talk shop about wine, there is no need to have a guilty conscience if all you know is the name of your favourite wine. Enjoying is what is most important!

Sugar – From an expensive luxury item to a basic foodstuff
Historically, sugar first became known as a medicament and then as a precious luxury that only kings and princes could afford. The “sweet salt” was produced in the tropics from sugar cane and thus had to be imported to Europe. Prices only sank after a German scientist discovered that sugar beets could also be used as a source of sugar in 1747. Today sugar is found in nearly all convenience products and is also a staple ingredient in the kitchen.

Cabbage – the forgotten vegetable

Honey – sweet temptation from industrious collectors
As long ago as the Stone Age, people enjoyed the sweet gourmet delights of honey – for which to this very day we must thank the industriousness of the bees. The distance travelled for the collection of a kilogram of honey by one bee is equivalent to several times the circumference of the Earth. The valuable ingredients thus make the natural food not only a special delight for the palate but it is also used extensively as a curative remedy.

For as long as man has inhabited the earth herbs have been part of our daily lives. They are found in meadows, forests and even along the side of the road. The taste of summer
It's the strawberry season! From a purely botanical stance these are not berries at all, but rank among the so-called aggregate fruits. Berries are fruits whose seeds are embedded in the juicy flesh of a fruit, for instance grapes, black currants, gooseberries. The actual fruit of the strawberry are the many little brown nuts to be seen on the outer skin of a strawberry...

In the winter your skin needs special care
It is wintertime! In the cold and rainy season our body needs more rest and takes longer to recover than in summer. We sleep longer, spend more time at home, and enjoy getting comfortable indoors. Wintertime is stressful for your skin. That should be no surprise as the rooms in houses and offices are generally overheated, and the dry, warm air is not good for the skin. But there are ways and means of giving the skin what it needs – in a totally natural manner. November 2003

Cellulite? Don't despair, do something about it
Men are spared from it their whole lives long. Only women suffer from this weakness of the connective tissue. We are of course talking about cellulite, also known as orange peel skin. When, as at present, we experience record temperatures and clothes just can't be light enough, then these dimples – which are mainly to be found on the hips, thighs and upper arms – appear slightly unaesthetic. Although cellulite cannot be completely removed, at least it can be successfully reduced. July 2003

Are your nails ready for the summer?
Fingernails are a reflection of the soul. If someone is constantly nibbling their nails, it is usually a sign of nervousness and uncertainty. If a person's nails are unkempt and dirty, this is a sure sign that this person also neglects himself. Women who paint their nails do so to underline their femininity. Be they long or short – we all dream of having beautiful fingernails. A dream that can easily come true thanks to the way you take care of them. June 2003
