Green beans are fleshy beans with a round green pod. They may be bought fresh or frozen. When ripe they may be broken in half very easily. Traditionally they are served as a side dish with a light sauce or in butter with summer savory. Fresh green beans should be steamed for ca. 20 minutes so as to develop their fine aroma.
