Honey is not only a benefit to the taste buds but it is also prized as a curative remedy. It has a slight inflammation reduction effect. Swellings, elevated temperatures and localised pain can be reduced by the application of honey. It is said that wounds heal more evenly and with less scarring when honey is applied. As a wound dressing it is supposed to have a mild antiseptic effect. The healing effect is based upon an enzyme that the bees add during the production process. This enzyme ensures that there is a permanent presence of small amounts of hydrogen peroxide in the honey. This has an anti-microbial effect. As a household remedy one can also use the properties of honey for throat infections and colds.
But take care! In the event of pollen allergy, the consumption of honey can initiate an over-sensitivity reaction since it contains small amounts of blossom pollen.
