Quality classes Wines are divided into classes based on their quality. These are nearly the same in every country, the only difference being the designations used. The simplest category is that of the table wines, which underlie standard quality controls. The next higher category comprises the regional wines, which guarantee that the wines were made from the grapes of only one viticultural area. This is also a criterion for the wines of the highest quality class, in addition to having been made from only one varietal and bottled by the producer.
