Corks and closures
Wine corks are made from cork oak, the majority of which comes from Portugal. In addition to natural corks, today the use of glass corks or metal screw tops is becoming more widespread – even for quality wines. Plastic corks are mainly used for wines intended for immediate consumption.
Please note: a wine that tastes like cork is no longer drinkable. For this reason, a small sip of the wine should always be tested before serving. Adding a little mineral water to the wine in the glass can be a help to those who are unsure – this makes the cork smell clearly discernible, even for a lay person.
