A good start to springtime begins with the right kind of food!
Try something light and tasty on a mild spring day.
Gelatine is the right choice when it is a question of a light diet and beauty. This natural protein allows you to make an easy start to springtime. For a very good reason: Gelatine is a high-quality source of protein in a "light" version. It has many positive characteristics, above all it is free of cholesterol and sugar and contains no fat. Moreover it is very easily digestible. It means that your meals have very few calories and still taste delicious.
With gelatine you can create your own wonderful tasting dishes. They are low in fat yet still develop their full flavour. Thus gelatine is an ideal part of a light, low-fat and healthy diet.
Try a tomato terrine with basil, a light snack you can eat between meals:
Ingredients: (for a 1 litre terrine dish)
- 750 g tomatoes
- 2 onions
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- salt
- pepper
- cayenne pepper
- paprika powder
- 10 leaves of gelatine
- 50 g stoned black and green olives
- 2 bunches of basil
- 250 g low-fat cream cheese (preferably blanc battu)
Preparation: Dip the tomatoes briefly in simmering water, skin the tomatoes and cut into cubes. Finely chop the onions and garlic, fry briefly in hot oil and then add the tomatoes. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes, then puree and season well. Soak the leaf gelatine in cold water for around three minutes and let it swell for a few minutes. Then remove the swollen leaf gelatine from the water and carefully squeeze it out, add it to the tomato mixture and stir well. Allow to cool for a little while. Cut the olives into quarters and finely chop the basil. Mix these together with the cream cheese into the tomato mixture. Place the mixture in the terrine dish and leave to settle in the refrigerator for a number of hours. Before serving briefly place the dish in a bath of hot water. Then turn out the terrine and cut into slices.
Tip: Garnish with diced tomatoes and olives. We recommend a coarse rustic bread with the terrine.
Fat may be replaced with gelatine in many products without affecting their taste and consistency. The development of modern low-fat products such as half-fat margarine, fat-reduced cheese and yoghurt varieties would scarcely have been possible without gelatine. By consuming gelatine you can also do something for your beauty and well-being. The collagen protein strengthens hairs and fingernails in a completely natural manner and ensures that the skin remains smooth.
We wish you a pleasant start to springtime!
