Natural Protein Protects Bones and Joints
Brussels, August 2002. It can happen to any of us. Diseases of the bones and joints, such as arthrosis and osteoporosis are among the ‘quiet’ epidemics of our century. Osteoporosis is a pathological thinning of the solid bone substance, leading to brittle bones and is often associated with crippling pain. Worldwide the risk of getting this disease is 30 to 40 per cent for women and 13 per cent for men. The World Health Organisation, ‘WHO’, has included this disease in the list of the most important diseases in the world, both as far as the consequences of the disease are concerned and the treatment costs it entails. The most frequent consequence of osteoporosis are hip fractures.
But there is no need for these serious injuries. The most important thing for mobility and fitness well into old age is and remains exercise. Another important preventive measure is the regular taking of gelatine. This healthy and natural protein contains special amino acids that are important for building up articular cartilage in the body. If you have too little of this it makes itself known in the form of painful joints as well as brittle fingernails and hair. International scientific studies confirm that gelatine has a preventive and regenerative effect on the skeleton and locomotor system – especially bones, cartilage, tendons and ligaments. Recognised sports’ physicians and experts therefore recommend that 10 g of gelatine be taken daily.
It is true that the sooner the natural foodstuff gelatine is taken for prevention, the better the mobility in old age.
The natural foodstuff is available in pharmacies, health food stores and drugstores as drinkable gelatine or as hydrolysate. Eaten together with yoghurt or muesli or in the form of delicious home-made gelatine drinks, it supports the daily diet in a very light and natural way.
